Overmolding is a manufacturing technique used in part molding that uses two or more different materials to create a part. Low pressure overmolding uses a rigid plastic or metal part as a structural support on the inside, and wraps the outside of the part with a molding layer or multiple layers of softer or more flexible materials to create a part that is both functional and visually appealing. This technique is commonly used to produce products such as electronic devices, automotive parts, and medical devices. Low Pressure Over Molding (LPO) is a process that involves encapsulating components with a protective material. The solutions include selecting suitable materials, designing and fabricating a mold, preparing the inserts (components to be overmolded), setting up the mold and inserting the components, melting the overmolding material, injecting it at low pressure, cooling and curing, demolding, performing any necessary post-processing, and conducting quality inspection and testing.
